Chapter Introduction
Chapter three moves from the background of population health characteristics to formulating strategies for optimal population health. The reader will explore Levels of Prevention and Health Promotion Theories to consider a variety of methods that will lead to optimizing population health. The advanced practice nurse will find that health literacy is applicable to any setting and often overlooked as health promotion plans are formulated. As stated in in previous chapters, the focus of engaging in effective partnerships is an essential strategy in population health and will be reinforced in this chapter through advocacy.
Concepts in this chapter align with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Core Competencies for Nursing Education (AACN, 2021) as outlined in Table 3.1.
