Introduction

Optimizing Population Health: Strategies for Advance Practice Nurses was developed for learners in the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program at the University of West Florida. Students in the MSN tracks of Family Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Educator and Nurse Leader are the focus of this book. Due to the continual evolving nature of population health, the author realized that printed textbooks could not keep up with the contemporary issues that future nurse educators, nurse leaders and nurse practitioners.  The purpose of this resource is to provide an overview of population health essential concepts along with resources and strategies that can be used while completing a graduate degree in nursing as well as in practice. Resources are intended to be exemplary, but not exhaustive of all available resources, predominantly focused in the United States.

  • Content is presented in 4 major chapters aligned with the 2021 AACN Essentials of Nursing in the introduction of each chapter.
  • A crosswalk of content aligned with the 2021 AACN Essentials of Nursing is in Appendix B: Chapter Crosswalk Advanced-Level AACN Essentials
  • Each chapter contains links to videos and websites to allow the reader to engage with the content through practical examples.
  • Navigation to the next section is available on each page in the box on the bottom right hand side.
